David met Jonathan, the king Saul's son. There was an intimate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David. And Jonathan made a solemn pact with David because he loved him as he loved himself.
Jonathan sealed the pact by taking off his robe and giving it to David, together with his tunic, sword, bow, and belt.
David and Jonathan had a covenant relationship. They made a treaty or a covenant, that they would care for each other as their own self.
To Ponder:
The covenant relationship is a God-ordained relationship. This relationship lasts forever because the Holy Spirit binds them.
A covenant friend is a person to whom you can be yourself, who would cry for us and pray for us and never leave us even when we undergo pain and tough times in our life.
Generally, such relationships exist between the husband and the wife. They make a covenant with each other in the presence of God.
Let us seal our relationships with the blood of Christ. On our own, we would break, but with the Holy Spirit we can make it through, no matter how rough and turbulent the situations be.
